Aims and Objectives

  1. Continue to reforest the Kotuku Peninsula with a wide variety of native plants including two endemic to Great Barrier Island, propagated from seeds and seedlings on the island.
  2. Eradicate pests (rats, cats, rabbits, and pigs) on the peninsula and provide a sanctuary where native flora and fauna can flourish.
  3. Continue to extend the interpretive botanical walkway within the valley to illustrate native trees and plants existing on Great Barrier Island.
  4. Educate children and others about our New Zealand ecology.
  5. Raise endangered and native species within the Sanctuary.
