Second Aerial bait drop

Hurry up and wait as the weather determines the time scale.

It took 6 weeks before we finally had a suitable weather window with no likelihood of rain for 6 days or wind over 15 knots on the drop day. The forward forecast was still looking dubious when Jo Ritchie made the call with only a day for the Helicopter crew to get to FitzRoy with their gear. The Hiab truck and bait had all been stored on the property awaiting the moment.

As it turned out we had two fine days before the drop and four after giving the bait plenty of time in the environment before deteriorating to the stage of being unattractive to the pests. All the necessary ARC staff and volunteers arrived on the 4th August and the drop went without a hitch the following day. The procedure was the same as the previous drop but with the Broken Islands being done first since there was only half the volume of bait this time round.

Our considerable thanks are due to Lotteries, WWF and the Biodiversity Fund for making this possible.
