Artist in Residence 2020

Each year Auckland Council select an artist to live and work in an Auckland regional park. The artist in residence creates new work influenced in some way by the park, which we share with the public.

Residency locations for 2020

The residency moves each year so that new work is generated at different regional parks.

We are delighted to announce that this year artists can choose from Glenfern Sanctuary, Aotea/Great Barrier or Shakespear Regional Park.

Timeline for artist residency 2020

Applications open on 1 December and close on 24 February 2020.

We announce the selected artist in mid-March.

The residency is for a maximum of eight consecutive weeks, from October to November 2020.

Artist benefits

Artists receive:

  • free accommodation

  • a weekly fee for materials, tools, and equipment

  • a chance to work with, in, and around nature for eight weeks.

Purpose of the residency

The artist creates new work influenced in some way by the park, or those they meet there.

The work is shared back with the public via an event, exhibition, concert, performance or publication.

Artists’ insights help:

  • raise awareness of our regional parks

  • visitors see parks in a new light.
