Activities at Glenfern Sanctuary

Glenfern Sanctuary is ideally located to start your walking adventures on Aotea. Plus there's lots more to explore and do...

You are welcome to explore Glenfern Loop Track, enjoy a picnic lunch along the way or among the expansive manicured grounds surrounding our on-site accommodation. Glenfern Loop Track is 2 km long and will take you through remnant and regenerating bush, including the opportunity to explore the canopy of an ancient Kauri tree. You will access sweeping views of the Gulf and walk among several restoration planting areas while exploring the Sanctuary and all the bird life it has to offer.

Meanwhile Aotea/Great Barrier Island is a hikers paradise. There are many nearby tracks from Glenfern, check out the links. The  tracks are mostly on public land owned by the people of Aotearoa/New Zealand and managed by either the Department of Conservation (Aotea Conservation Park) or the Auckland Council.

Glenfern also offers a range of guided tours for groups interested in the history of the Sanctuary and our conservation efforts. We'l l be publishing these ready for Summer.
