Step back in time at Glenfern Cottage

Just south of Port Fitzroy is Whangaparapara Harbour, a once bustling industrial centre for timber milling, mining and whaling. Glenfern Cottage is actually workers’ quarters from the Whangaparapara sawmill. In 1914, it was barged in to Glenfern in two parts to the grounds of Fitzroy House.

Lovingly restored

Tucked away in the expansive Fitzroy House gardens, with large lawn areas, the cottage has been lovingly restored. It is one of the treasures within Glenfern Sanctuary and Great Barrier Island Accommodation.

Room for 6 guests

Glenfern Cottage can sleep up to six people in three comfortable bedrooms. The bed layout can be changed to suit your needs, with 2 doubles and a bunk room. Alternatively, you can have 1 double, 1 twin-single and a bunk room.

Fully self-contained

To make your stay convenient and comfortable, Glenfern Cottage is self-contained, including all linen. You’ll enjoy gas hot water. Plus, there’s a BBQ and outdoor picnic table for summer nights and a cosy fire for magical winter getaways.
