Education

Glenfern Sanctuary may be little in size, but we are very big in creating waves of action in conservation across New Zealand and beyond.

We do this by engaging people on-site in hands on conservation activities, experiencing and learning about our wonderful natural environment: how important it is and what's involved in looking after it. From our birds to our water to our power we are about learning how we fit into our environment in a more sustainable manner. The goal is to create a greater awareness and appreciation of our role in better managing our planet.

We organize various events throughout the year to involve our community including tailored school sessions, corporate and public events.

Hillary Outdoors, located over the hill in Karaka Bay are seasoned partners with many students involved with conservation programmes at Glenfern Sanctuary over the past decade. Auckland University tertiary students and local GBI school kids are also regular visitors.

You too can be part of the action, volunteering your time or simply coming and experiencing the greatest little Sanctuary and spreading the word around to initiate action further afield.

Volunteering in the Sanctuary

We can offer a great experience to assist in helping with our seasonal activities. These can include rat trapping & track clearing, planting and nursery work. All critical activities within the sanctuary.
