Discover the charm of Fitzroy House
As one of the oldest homesteads remaining on Great Barrier Island, Fitzroy House is also one of the most charming. Built in 1901, the house features the beautiful decorative detailing by craftsman builders from long ago.
Room for 10 guests
Fitzroy House also is amongst the most comfortable and spacious dwellings in Great Barrier Island accommodation. Five bedrooms can accommodate up to 10 guests. The beds can be arranged to suit your needs, with an option of 3 doubles, 1 twin-single and a bunkroom. Alternatively, you can have 2 doubles, 2 twin-singles and a bunk room.
Stunning gardens to explore
A large indoor dining area, pleasant library nook and TV/living room provide guests with generous living areas. There are also large outside dining areas and expansive gardens to explore. Stroll to sunset rock to experience stunning 360deg views of Port Fitzroy Harbour.
To make your stay convenient and comfortable, Fitzroy House is self-contained (this includes all your linen). There’s a large BBQ and a Bluetooth stereo. You’ll also find a good selection of books and games. For cool winter nights, there’s a wood burner and Stanley stove to keep you warm and cosy.
Enjoy your ultimate Barrier experience
Access to the property is by sea or road. You can bring your boat to the jetty (a mooring may be available) or drive to the house. Either way, unpack, unwind and enjoy your ultimate Great Barrier holiday experience. Don’t wait another minute.
NOTE: All income from Fitzroy House and Glenfern Cottage goes towards the management of Glenfern Sanctuary, helping to protect our precious and endangered native species.
"A totally magical weekend with friends at Glenfern Sanctuary. We stayed in the historic Fitzroy House conveniently located inside the sanctuary. Highly recommend for a break away."
